OMAHA (DTN) -- USDA, in its Prospective Plantings report on Monday, projected farmers will plant 95.3 million acres of corn, within the range of pre-report recommendations but above the average guess of 94.2 million. Soybean acreage was forecast at 83.5 million.
USDA released its Prospective Plantings and quarterly Grain Stocks reports on Monday.
Monday's USDA acreage estimates were moderately bearish for corn, moderately bullish for soybeans and bullish for wheat, said DTN Lead Analyst Rhett Montgomery. Grain Stocks estimates were slightly bullish for corn, slightly bearish for soybeans and slightly bearish for wheat, he said.

PROSPECTIVE PLANTINGS
Corn planted area for all purposes in 2025 is estimated at 95.3 million acres (ma), up 5%, or 4.73 ma, from last year and above average pre-report estimates. Compared to 2024, planted acreage is expected to be up or unchanged in 40 of the 48 estimating states.
USDA estimated soybean planted area for 2025 at 83.5 ma, down 4% from last year and just below average pre-report estimates. Compared with last year, planted acreage is down or unchanged in 23 of the 29 estimating states, USDA said.
All wheat planted area for 2025 is estimated at 45.4 ma, down 2% from 2024 and below average pre-report estimates. If realized, this represents the second-lowest all-wheat planted area since 1919.
USDA estimates 2025 winter wheat planted area at 33.3 ma, down 2% from the previous estimate and down less than 1% from last year.
Of this total, about 23.6 ma are hard red winter, 6.09 ma are soft red winter, and 3.66 ma are white winter.
Area expected to be planted to other spring wheat for 2025 is estimated at 10.0 ma, down 6% from 2024 estimate.
Of this total, about 9.4 ma are hard red spring wheat. Durum planted area for 2025 is expected to total 2.02 ma, down 2% from the previous year.
USDA estimates all cotton planted area for 2025 at 9.87 ma, down 12% from last year.
Upland area is estimated at 9.71 ma, also down 12% from 2024. American Pima area is estimated at 157,000 acres, down 24% from 2024.
GRAIN STOCKS
Domestic corn stocks as of March 1 totaled 8.15 billion bushels, down 2% from last year. Of that, 4.5 billion bushels were stored on farms, down 11% from a year earlier. Off-farm stocks, at 3.65 billion bushels, are up 12%. Usage for the December 2024-February 2025 timeframe is 3.92 billion bushels, compared with 3.82 billion bushels during the same period last year.
Soybeans stored in all positions on March 1 totaled 1.91 bb, 4% higher than last year. On-farm stocks are estimated at 877 mb, 6% less than last year. Off-farm stocks, at 1.03 bb, are up 13% from last March. Usage for the December 2024-February 2025 quarter totaled 1.19 billion bushels, up 3% from the same period a year earlier.
Wheat stored in all positions totaled 1.24 bb on March 1, up 14% from a year ago. On-farm stocks are estimated at 307 mb, 13% higher than last March. Off-farm stocks, at 930 mb, are up 14% from a year ago. The December 2024-February 2025 usage is 336 mb, 1% above the same period a year earlier.
